Yummy Skin Care: Food To Cure Skin Problems

Published On : Tuesday, Sept 21, 2009

Food has long been used for making skin products. Eye creams have been infused with the green tea and moisturizers have been enhanced with different kinds of fruits, more exotic ones are considered to be better. These products are not only expensive but their results are also no better than eating the foods instead of applying them on your skin. In some cases, the results may even be worse. Here are some examples of natural treatments for common skin conditions:

Acne:
There are 3 remedies that help in clearing up acne in a natural way. Vitamin A, Vitamin E and selenium. Vitamin E and selenium have to be taken together which means that taking only one of the two will not be able to deliver the desired results. Selenium is abundantly available in mushrooms, barley and seafood while Vitamin E is high in green leafy vegetables and almonds. Consuming too much of selenium may cause serious side effects like hair loss, depression and anxiety. Experts recommend consuming not more than 400 mg per day but you might have to consult your doctor for appropriate content in your case.

Researchers and doctors have always known the positive results of Vitamin A on the human skin. It is necessary for hormone balance and skin repair. It can also be helpful in reducing the visibility of scars made by acne. Spinach, sweet potatoes and carrots are some of the best sources of Vitamin A.

Age Lines:
Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals that damage the cells and that is why, they work as the best protectors from wrinkles. Different food items contain different types of antioxidants and each of them play different role in keeping the human skin young and fresh. Antioxidants that are present in green tea are hugely successful in correcting and preventing age damage. Try drinking at least a cup of green tea every day. Red wine, dark chocolate and berries are also rich sources of antioxidants.

Skin Damaged Due To Sun:
Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants are helpful in clearing up the sun spots and even reduce the risks of skin cancer. For those who have dark spots on their face or with melanoma family history, it is advice to increase the amount of broccoli, salmon and avocados. It is also found that tea and coffee can be particularly beneficial to prevent skin cancer. Researchers said that the antioxidants present in coffee bind to the pre-cancerous cells and get them repaired before they actually become cancerous.
