The affect of acne on
people's lives can be considerable. It can affect them mentally,
physically and emotionally. The degree varies according to the
emotional make up of those affected by acne and the severity of
acne. People suffering from mild to moderate acne tend to cope
better than those who suffer from severe and recurring acne
problems.
The first notions that cross their mind when they spot a pimple
erupting on their face is that it is ugly, disgusting and unclean.
This feeling is slowly replaced by a sense of anger, defeat and
helplessness. They start avoiding social gatherings as well as
parties.
Even going to school or college becomes an ordeal for them. They
become increasingly self-conscious of their looks. It has been often
noticed that children especially teenagers start imagining stares
when they walk down the school lobby. This has an adverse effect on
their overall personality.
They start avoiding their own classmates especially those belonging
to the opposite sex. This fall in confidence and self-esteem can
even affect their school grades. They may develop feelings of envy
and jealousy against their friends or classmates who have clear
skin. This may even affect your relationships with them
Problems worsen if their sibling has inherited perfect skin from one
of their parents while they have inherited the wrong type of skin.
This affects the already fragile parent –teen relationship. It can
lead to increased trauma and can even lead to depression.
Acne problems are not restricted to teenagers only. Most adults are
unable to cope with acne problems also. Their self-confidence dips,
and this affects their work too. They are unable to rise high in
life which hurts their self-esteem. Some of them blame their looks
for each failure and can take to drugs and liquor. Most fall into
deep depression and suffer from frequent bouts of self-pity. They
are easily angered and often are emotionally unstable
Most adults avoid social gatherings and parties. Even if they do
attend they stay in the shadows. This does more harm than good. For
many, it becomes difficult to address a small a group of people
becomes they are very conscious of their pimples. As the body
language becomes negative, people start avoiding them. Some even
develop a sense of inferiority complex -- something that can stay
with them for the rest of their lives.
